Haugesund International school was founded in February 2015 by Haugesund Shipowners Association (Haugesund Rederiforening) and Haugesundregionens Næringsforening (general business association).
The need for an international school was heartfelt in a region of many businesses operating in an international market.
The school opened for the first time in August 2016 with students ranging from 6 to 16 years. Haugesund International School is a candidate school for the International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Programme and Middle Years Programme and pursuing authorization as an IB World School.
The school is currently based in premises together with another local school, but plans to build a new school is already ongoing. The Head of School is involved in this planning.
